TITLE OF BILL:
An act in relation to authorizing Joshua Kaye to receive certain retro-
active membership in the New York state and local police and fire
retirement system
 
PURPOSE:
Authorizes Joshua Kaye to receive certain retroactive membership in the
New York State and local police and fire retirement system.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary,
Joshua Kaye, currently a member of the New York state and local police
and fire retirement system, who was employed by the North Merrick Public
School District on April 7, 2003 who, for reasons not ascribed to his
own negligence, failed to become a member of the New York state and
local employees' retirement system during his employment with the North
Merrick Public School District, shall be deemed to have joined the New
York state and local police and fire system on the date April 7, 2003
and shall be granted Tier II status in such retirement system, if within
one year of the effective date of this act, he shall file a written
request with the comptroller to such effect.
§ 2. All past service costs associated with the implementation of this
act shall be borne by the state.
§ This act shall take effect immediately.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Joshua Kaye began his career with the North Merrick Public School
District in 2003. This legislation would allow Mr. Kaye to join the
retirement system as reflected in 2003. To join the retirement system
effective April 7, 2003.
