TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system in Oneida county to "Officer Michael E. Jensen"
 
PURPOSE:
To dedicate State Route 46 in Rome from Prospect Avenue to Dixon Road in
the Town of Western for Officer Michael E. Jensen, formerly of Rome, New
York, of the Syracuse Police Department who was killed in the line of
duty on April 14, 2024.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1- Dedicates a portion of the state highway system in Oneida
County on State Route 46 as "Officer Michael E. Jensen."
Section 2- Allows that the Commissioner of Transportation shall provide
for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state
highway system pursuant to this act.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Syracuse Police Officer Michael E. Jensen was tragically killed in the
line of duty on April 14, 2024, alongside Lieutenant Michel Hoosock of
the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office during a standoff in Salina. This
bill serves to honor Officer Jensen's service by renaming a section of
State Route 46 in the City of Rome, where he was born and raised.
