TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to establishing inter-
school robotics competitions for certain schools
PURPOSE:
To allow School Districts the ability to establish robotic teams for
competition as an official school sport.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding new
subdivision 63
Section 2 of the bill establishes the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation empowers schools to designate robotics as a varsity
sport, giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a
competitive and equitable environment.
Like football, baseball, basketball, and other traditional sports,
robotics demands skill, teamwork, determination, and perseverance.
These are the very traits we strive to instill in every student. By
enabling schools to form varsity robotics teams, we provide more
students with the chance to discover their passions and develop to their
full potential.
All students deserve the opportunity to build these essential skills,
and this legislation ensures that those involved in robotics will have
that chance.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None to State.
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect take effect on the first of July next
succeeding the date on which it shall become law. Effective immediately,
the addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation neces-
sary for the implementation of this act on its effective date are
authorized to be made completed on or before such effective date.
