TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 220 of the laws of 1976 incorporating the
Brockport Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association, Monroe county, New
York, and providing for its powers and duties, in relation to its
purpose and the use of foreign fire insurance premiums
 
PURPOSE:
To authorize the Brockport Volunteer Firemen's Benevolent Association to
provide the relief, aid, and assistance to the members.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: creates the Brockport Exempt Volunteer Firefighters' Benevo-
lent Association, Inc.
Section 2: establishes the people that are eligible for membership.
Section 3: is amended to change the purpose of the association to
provide the relief, aid and assistance of such members and their fami-
lies who are injured, disabled or indigent. To promote and safeguard the
welfare of the volunteer members of the corporation and their families;
to provide for the health and safety of the volunteer members of the
corporation and to enhance the morale of the volunteer members of the
corporation by providing social and recreational activities for the
volunteer members of the corporation.
Section 7: Precept for payment of foreign fire insurance premium taxes.
Subsection 2 establishes the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Volunteer firefighters perform dangerous duties each and every day in
our communities. They offer reliable protection to our health, well
being and property. They receive no compensation for their efforts
except our heartfelt thanks and a small "pension like" benefit after
years of service.
These changes were requested by the Brockport Exempt Volunteer Firemen's
(Firefighter) Benevolent Association to update their charter after
changing from a fire department to a fire district in 2012.
