TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to technical changes; and to
amend chapter 433 of the laws of 2022 amending the tax law relating to
permitting the village of Cold Spring to impose a hotel and motel tax,
in relation to the effectiveness thereof
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill extends the village of Cold Spring's authority to impose a
hotel and motel tax through July 21, 2027.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Renumbers section 1202-hh of the tax law and amends chapter
433 of the laws of 2022 to extend permission for Cold Spring to impose a
hotel and motel tax through July 21, 2027.
Section 2: Establishes the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The Village of Cold Spring passed resolution 17-2025 requesting the
extension of their a hotel and motel tax. This will allow Cold Spring to
offset costs to infrastructure maintenance, garbage removal, public
safety and staff costs.
 
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
This provision was enacted in chapter 433 of the laws of 2022 and is set
to expire on July 21, 2025.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS:
None to the state.
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
