TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the authorization
of the county of Oswego to impose an additional one percent of sales and
compensating use taxes
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Authorizes County of Oswego to extend the current rate of sales and
compensating use taxes for the period beginning December 1, 2025 and
ending November 30, 2027.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends the tax law to authorize and empower the County of
Oswego to adopt and amend local laws, ordinances, or resolution to
continue an additional tax rate during the period of December 1, 2025
and ending November 30, 2027.
Section 2 provides the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill is being introduced at the request of Oswego County. Since
Oswego County began collecting the additional sales tax, they have been
able to lower their property tax rate significantly. Oswego County has
responsibly insured that the funds were used wisely and to help control
costs for the benefit of all county residents. They will continue to do
so with this extension of the sales and compensating use tax.
