TITLE OF BILL:
An act in relation to authorizing Karol Hughes to take the competitive
civil service examination for the position of police officer and be
placed on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer
for the town/village of East Rochester
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill authorizes Karol Hughes, a part-time police officer, with the
town/village of East Rochester police department to take the civil exam-
ination.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 Notwithstanding section 58 of the Civil Service Law, the
Village of East Rochester is authorized to appoint Karol Hughes to a
full-time competitive position as a police officer of the village.
Section 2 states Karol Hughes shall still be subject to the merit and
fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time
police officers.
Section 3 sets forth the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill will allow Karol Hughes, currently a part-time police officer
for the Village of East Rochester, to be appointed in the competitive
class of civil service as a full-time police officer in the village,
notwithstanding the 35-year-old limitation set forth in section 58 of
the Civil Service Law.
