TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to providing
for distinctive plates for gold star families
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to issue gold star families a specialized
license plate that distinguishes the bearing of 10 words "gold star
family member" to publicly honor and recognize them for their service.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends the vehicle and traffic law to establish clarification
on gold star applicants and how the commissioner should issue these
plates to gold star families wishing to receive one.
Section 2 establishes the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Currently, 47 states and one United States territory have legislation
that allows for mothers, if not more family members, to display a Gold
Star license plate after the death of a family member in active duty.
This legislation aims to include all family members the ability to
obtain a gold star license plate on the vehicle of their choice.
