TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the legislative law, in relation to reducing the salary
of members of the state legislature and providing that the regular
legislative session shall end by March 31 annually
 
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to reduce to $48,000 the salary that is paid
to members of the legislature and to end the legislative session on
March 31 of each year.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends the legislative law to reduce the salary of members of
the legislature to $48,000.
Section 2 amends the legislative law to end the legislative session year
on March 31 of each calendar year.
Section 3 marks the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
In terms of the number of days spent legislating, the New York State
Legislature is supposed to be considered part-time in terms of its work.
This bill would conform the pay and legislative session calendar to the
constitutional responsibilities outlined for the Legislature in the New
York State Constitution.
