TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the real property actions and proceedings law, in
relation to the removal of unauthorized persons from residential real
property
 
PURPOSE:
Relates to the removal of unauthorized persons from residential real
property.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Adds a new section 758 to the real property actions and
proceedings law.
Section 2: Is the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
As recently reported in the news, squatters are taking over
homes/apartments that they have no legal right to occupy. Factors such
as homelessness, the high cost of housing and its limited supply, which
is driven by bad economic government policy has caused a squatting
crisis in communities across the state. This crisis in jeopardizing
property owners' safety and livelihoods. This bill would require law
enforcement to immediately remove a person or persons from an owner's
property which they are not legally authorized to occupy.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
