TITLE OF BILL:
An act to allow Andriel Santana to be eligible to take the civil service
exam for the position of deputy sheriff for the Columbia County Sher-
iff's Office
 
PURPOSE:
Authorizes Andriel Santana to take the competitive exam for full-time
deputy sheriff and be placed on the eligible list for such position.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Authorizes Andriel Santana to sit for the civil service exam
and be placed on the eligibility list for full-time deputy sheriff.
Section 2: Andriel Santana is subject to the merit and fitness
provisions of the Civil Service Law applicable to full-time deputy sher-
iffs.
Section 3: This act shall take effect immediately.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Under the Civil Service Law, as prescribed under Section 58, no individ-
ual may take the civil service examination, nor be eligible for a civil
service appointment as a Deputy Sheriff, at the age of 35 or older. Due
to this limitation, Columbia County Correctional Officer Andriel Santana
has requested legislation to be eligible to take the civil service exam-
ination since he is currently older than 35 years old.
