TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to law enforcement offi-
cer and firefighter grant funds
 
PURPOSE:
Throughout New York State, our fire and police departments are facing
significant financial challenges. This bill provides each with unique
grant funding opportunities to help with recruitment, retention and
equipment purchases that will help alleviate the burden on department
and town budgets.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1- Title- The Public Safety Investment Act
Section 2- Executive law is amended by adding a new section 844 to
provide $150 million in law enforcement officer grand funding for the
years 2025, 2026, and 2027.
Section 3- Executive law is amended by adding a new section 158-a to
provide $150 million in firefighter grand funding for the years 2025,
2026, and 2027

JUSTIFICATION:
Our local police and fire departments continue to struggle financially.
The lack of grant opportunities has made it harder for them to maintain
a high standard of equipment without municipalities raising taxes. This
bill aims to help departments with costs while keeping the burden away
from taxpayers.
