TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public housing law, in relation to requiring certain
public residential buildings to maintain a supply of naloxone
PURPOSE:
Creates the Home Opioid Prevention and Education Act; Requires certain
public residential buildings to maintain a supply of naloxone
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 details residential housing buildings to which receive funding
through the department of housing and urban development or the division
of housing and community renewal will be required to have a supply of at
least one dose of naloxone. Funding for this program will be provided by
the Office of Addiction Services and Support.
Section 2 states the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation addresses a pressing public health issue, provides
resources and education at the grassroots level to prevent opioid misuse
and promote a safer home environment. Requiring public housing develop-
ments to maintain a supply of naloxone will reduce the number of
opioid-related incidents, overdoses, and addiction cases by fostering
awareness and responsible practices within households. This legislation
emphasizes the importance of early intervention and support for individ-
uals at risk, contributing to a comprehensive strategy to combat the
opioid epidemic.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have
