BILL NUMBER: S6367
SPONSOR: RIVERA

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 383 of the laws of 1991, relating to the incor-
poration of the New York Zoological Society, in relation to extending
the expiration date of free one day admission to the zoological park

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To extend authorization for one day of free admission in each week to
the zoological park of the Bronx Zoo set to expire July 1, 2025, to
December 31, 2030

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1: amends section three of chapter 383 of the laws of 1991,
relating to the incorporation of the New York Zoological Society, to
authorize at least one day of free admission for the general public in
each week, subject to such rules and regulations as the corporation may
prescribe, at least until December 31, 2030.
Section 2: sets forth an immediate effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
For nearly 126 years, the Bronx Zoo has served as a pivotal landmark for
the community. It has established a learning environment for community
members and forgoers across the State and Country, providing the impor-
tance of conservation, preservation of native species, and promotion of
zoology. This bill would allow the extension of inclusive access to all
New Yorkers and community members to experience the culture and academia
behind New York State's native species and wildlife - in this manner,
all members of the community can experience the Bronx Zoo, not just
those who can afford admission. Fundamentally, one day of free admission
serves the diverse needs of community members, expanding access to New
York City school groups, college students, and underserved youth and
seniors and providing an atmosphere of educational exploration, creati-
vity, and inspiration for all.
