JUSTIFICATION:
The purpose of this bill is to increase awareness for endometriosis and
other menstrual disorders impacting women which are often overlooked.
Endometriosis is a condition that causes extra tissue growth around the
uterus and often leads to infertility, impacting roughly 1 in 10 women
in Americas(1). However, despite the large number of people impacted by
this disorder, it often gets overlooked or misdiagnosed by medical
professionals and the average time to diagnosis is 7-10 years (2). Many
are unaware endometriosis exists. This bill aims to increase awareness
by giving the Commissioner of Education the power to create health
curriculum instruction covering menstrual disorders and provides general
guidance on what curriculum should include, like the importance of
menstrual health.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding the date
on which it shall have become a law.
