TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 264 of the laws of 1961 relating to the incorpo-
ration of the Hampton Bays Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Associ-
ation and providing for its powers and duties, in relation to the
management of certain affairs of such association
PURPOSE:
This bill will amend chapter 264 of the laws of 1961 relating to incor-
porating the Hampton Bays Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Associ-
ation, Inc in relation to its name, making the Special Act gender
neutral, changing the number of members on the board of trustees, and
updating provision for the usage of monies received from foreign fire
insurance companies by the association.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Amends section 1 of chapter 264 of the laws of 1961 relating
to the incorporation of the Hampton Bays Volunteer Exempt Firemen's
Benevolent Association, Inc by changing the term "Firemen's" to "Fire-
fighter's" in the name of the corporation to be gender neutral and more
inclusive.
Section 2. Amends section 2 of chapter 264 of the laws of 1961 by chang-
ing the term firemen to firefighter.
Section 3. Amends section 6 of chapter 264 of the laws of 1961 by chang-
ing the number of members on the board of trustees of the Hampton Bays
Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc. to reflect
eight members.
Section 4. Amends section 7 of chapter 264 of the 1961 laws to use taxes
collected and paid by section nine thousand one hundred four of the
insurance law, as well as a share of the tax imposed by section nine
thousand one hundred five of the insurance law in the furtherance of its
purposes as set forth in section 614/2 of this article.
JUSTIFICATION:
This act would amend the chapter of law governing the operation of the
Hampton Bays Volunteer Exempt Firemen's Benevolent Association, Inc, in
a manner similar to that which has been done for other volunteer fire-
fighters' benevolent associations so that it may more effectively attend
to the well-being of the association, its members and their families.
This bill also updates the provisions for the distribution of foreign
fire insurance funds to make its use consistent with sections 9104 and
9105 of the New York State insurance law.
