TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to designating March
twenty-third as "Pakistan Day"
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is for the State of New York to recognize March
twenty-third as a state holiday in the State of York named "Pakistan
Day".
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends the state's executive law, by amending subdivision 3
of section 168-a, amended by chapter 237 of the laws of 2020 by creating
a state holiday oh March twenty-third as a state holiday in the State of
New York named "Pakistan Day". n-
Section 2: Contains the bill's effective date clause, which provides
that the act shall take effect immediately.
JUSTIFICATION:
The State of New York has the distinction of being the primary doorway
to the United State of America for immigrants who come to this country
to make it stronger, and more diverse. In this regard, people in the
United States of America, and the State of New York, have a strong
community and large-community of people who trace their cultural and
geographical history to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
This state holiday will be another step towards honoring the service,
and contributions of Pakistani-Americans who reside in the State of New
York. This state holiday will be a testament to recognize the history of
Pakistani culture, and the impact of the people who have brought this
culture to this country to make it a more perfect union.
