BILL NUMBER: S5768
SPONSOR: SCARCELLA-SPANTON

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to parking
regulations for the Seagate police department

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Protects peace officers employed by the Seagate police
department from punitive measures related to their service vehicles
being parked in areas prohibiting parking by signage.
Section 2. Issues the Seagate police department distinctive placards
that verify their service as a member of that police department and as
peace officers. These placards will also be issued upon payment of a
one-time charge set by the commissioner.
Section 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

JUSTIFICATION:
For the Seagate community on Coney Island, their police department plays
an important role in protecting the community and providing services
similar to that of a peace officer. This bill ensures that they are
provided with the necessary protections that would ensure they can carry
out their duties in the most effective way possible.
The bill provides measures for them to freely park in and around the
Seagate community and provides them with the ability to apply for a
placard that clearly distinguishes their vehicles from an ordinary traf-
fic vehicle that would otherwise be driven in the area.
