TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to "TSgt Kory Wade"
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill dedicates a portion of state route twenty-one in the town of
Manchester, county of Ontario to TSgt Kory Wade
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends the highway law by adding a new section dedicating the
portion of the highway system constituting state route twenty-one from
its intersection with state route ninety-six to its intersection with
Latting Road and Standpipe Road, in the town of Manchester, county of
Ontario, to "TSgt Kory Wade Memorial Highway".
Section 2 states that the commissioner of transportation shall provide
for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state
highway systems as designated pursuant to section 1 of this act.
Section 3 provides the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
TSgt Kory Wade served his nation honorably in the United States Airforce
assigned to the 48th Rescue Squadron as a medical logistics Airman.He
tragically lost his life in service to our country on June 17, 2023
while conducting a training exercise at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
TSgt Wade's many awards and decorations include the Air and Space
Commendation Medal, Air and Space Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious
Unit Award, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense
Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and U.S. Air
Force Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate
Ribbon.
TSgt Wade was born in Ontario County and raised in Manchester, graduat-
ing from Red Jacket High School in 2008. Upon graduation he felt a call
to serve his nation and immediately enlisted in the United States
Airforce where he served with honor for 15 years until his untimely
death in June of 2023. TSgt Wade enjoyed spending time outdoors, boating
with the occasional boating poker run, riding motorcycles and skiing.
TSgt Wade loved being around his family and spending time with his
beloved dog Kaiser. He was tremendously humble about his service and
held a strong compassion for children and animals.
Following his death, Governor Kathy Hochul directed flags to half-staff
on July 5th and July 6th of 2023 in honor of TSgt Kory Wade. This legis-
lation serves as a small way to honor and respect TSgt Wade's ultimate
sacrifice for our nation by dedicating portions of State Route 21 in the
town of Manchester, county of Ontario to TSgt Kory Wade.
