TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring CPR and
AED training by youth league coaches
PURPOSE:
This bill requires coaches in New York state who coach youth leagues to
be trained and certified in the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and
automated external defibrillators.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill amends the public health law by adding a new
section 2596.
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill protects young athletes and promotes safety in athletics by
requiring coaches to have up-to-date CPR and AED certification. It is
critical to safeguard the health and well-being of participants in youth
sports by ensuring that coaches have the requisite training to respond
to a medical emergency.
