SPONSOR: ORTT
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the real property tax law, in relation to expanding the
Gold Star exemption
PURPOSE::
To expand the alternative veteran's real property tax exemption by
providing it to parents whose child has died on United States soil due
to a service-connected disability.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS::
Section 1 amends the definition of "period of war" to include the war on
terror.
Section 2 provides the alternative veterans real property tax exemption
to parents who have lost a child on United States soil due to a
service-connected disability as a result of their military service.
JUSTIFICATION::
Gold Star parents have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing a child in
service to our nation. Extending real property tax exemptions to them
regardless of where their child gave their life is a small way to honor
their loss and recognize their sacrifice.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS::
None to the State.

This bill would take effect immediately and apply to taxable years
beginning on or after January 1, 2025.
