TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to allowing a tax exemption
with respect to fire extinguishers and fire, heat and carbon monoxide
alarms purchased for residential use
 
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is encourage the purchase of fire prevention
equipment.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends section 1115 of the tax law to provides a tax exemption
for fire extinguishers, heat alarms and carbon monoxide alarms purchased
during the month of October.
Section 2 states the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Proper fire safety equipment in the home, including fire extinguishers
and alarms, is the first line of defense for many families. Of ten these
instruments can mean the difference between life and death, and it is
prudent to remove all possible economic barriers for families to main-
tain them in the home.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall have
become a law and shall apply to eligible fire extinguishers, fire
alarms, heat alarms and carbon monoxide alarms purchased on or after
ponsuch effective date.
