TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting
Federal Bureau of Investigation police certain peace officer powers
PURPOSE:
To grant certain peace officer powers to Federal Bureau of Investigation
Police.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends subdivision 1 of section 2.15 of the Criminal Procedure
Law to add Federal Bureau of Investigation police to the list of federal
law enforcement officers granted peace officer powers.
Section 2 provides an effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill corrects an oversight by including Federal Bureau of Investi-
gation (FBI) Police on the list of federal law enforcement officers
granted peace officer powers under section 2.15 of the Criminal Proce-
dure Law. The U.S. FBI Police are responsible for providing protection
to FBI personnel and performing law enforcement duties at FBI facili-
ties.
