TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to authorizing park-and-
ride development as construction or improvement by the department of
transportation partly at municipal expense
PURPOSE:
Authorizes the commissioner of the Department of Transportation to use
moneys of the federal government to ensure the effective discharge of
state responsibilities with respect to park-and-ride development.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends Subdivision 1 of section 80-b of the highway law by
adding park-and-ride development to the list of regional transportation
needs that the Department of Transportation commissioner be authorized
to use federal funding.
Section 2: Sets Effective Date
JUSTIFICATION:
New York State does not qualify for park-and-ride development as eligi-
ble to receive federal funds for regional transportation projects, such
as the Marchiselli program. This legislation will establish park-and-
ride development as eligible for these funds.
