BILL NUMBER: S5275A
SPONSOR: BAILEY

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to permitting certain
licensed athletic trainers to practice in New York state if they are
licensed to practice in another state, territory or country

PURPOSE:
To allow licensed trainers to practice in New York State if they are
licensed in another state.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of this bill amends section 8356 of the education law by
adding a new subdivision 4.

JUSTIFICATION:
When an away team comes to New York, its staff should have the ability
to carry out their professional duties. There is no law in New York
State explicitly allowing licensed athletic trainers from other states
to practice here when they are traveling for job-related purposes. This
bill simply codifies the ability of an athletic trainer to work in New
York for the time of a sporting event or performance.
By granting traveling licensed athletic trainers the ability to practice
in New York, we continue to grow and strengthen this profession nation-
wide.
