TITLE OF BILL:
An act to designate certain zip codes as cease and desist zones
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA:
To stop intense and repeated solicitation by real estate brokers and
salespersons within the geographic areas of the Bronx and Mount Vernon.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
This bill adds all the zip codes of the Bronx and Mount Vernon to the
relevant provisions of the real property law so as to make those areas
cease and desist zones.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Homeowners in the Bronx and Mount Vernon are subject to intense and
repeated solicitation by real estate brokers and salespersons to place
their property for sale. This bill would establish these areas as cease
and desist zones under the real property law. This would allow owners of
residential property located within these areas to file an owner's
statement with the secretary of state expressing, per the statute, their
wish not to be solicited by real estate brokers, salespersons or other
persons regularly engaged in the trade or business of buying and selling
real estate.
