TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to directing the office
of children and family services to establish a center for fatherhood
initiatives
PURPOSE:
To require the office of children and family services to establish a
center for fatherhood initiatives where entities can apply for grants to
implement programs that promote the advancement of fatherhood in New
York State.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill amends the executive law by adding a new section
establishing the center in accordance with the title and purpose of the
bill.
EXISTING LAW:
None.
JUSTIFICATION:
Fathers play a critical part in the development of a child. Studies show
that children with involved fathers have more positive outcomes regard-
ing cognitive and behavioral development, general health and well-being,
academic achievement, and self-esteem. The intent of this legislation is
to create a framework at the Office of Children and Family Services to
issue grants to initiatives that promote and advance fatherhood, includ-
ing but not limited to all marginalized fatherhood groups.
