BILL NUMBER: S5174
SPONSOR: COMRIE
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in
relation to increasing the number of licenses for tow truck operators
PURPOSE:
This bill would authorize New York City to increase the number of
licenses for tow truck operators.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 adds subparagraph b to Section 20-520 of the administrative
code of the city of New York to increase available tow truck licenses by
thirty percent.
Section 2 sets forth and immediate effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Right now, tow trucks in the boroughs are limited. This causes strain on
the timetable to recover disabled vehicles on our highways and thruways,
in addition to our city streets.
Folks who have fallen victim to car issues have cited long wait times in
normal circumstances in addition to when weather is less than ideal for
elderly and vulnerable populations when New York is a cold weather envi-
ronment. This shortage is failing to address the problems that can arise
in public health, when drivers may not be prepared to wait with their
vehicle for long periods of time.
This bill will ensure that New York City takes a look at the shortage of
tow trucks and work to address the low numbers of tow trucks currently
available to recover vehicles and their passengers.
