TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the penal law, in relation to categorizing the assault
of certain employees of the New York city department of buildings or the
New York city department of housing preservation and development as a
class D felony
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To create the crime that an assault on members of the NYC Department of
Buildings is a class D felony.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
The bill amends section 120.5 of the penal law with four subdivisions,
3-d, 3-e, 11-d and 11-e
JUSTIFICATION:
The men, and women who work for the NYC Department of Buildings are
working to ensure the safety and full compliance with building codes in
New York City. Any attack on an -employee is unacceptable. This law
would add to the previous law and ensure that any assault would be
charged with a D felony. Our employees cannot fear being assaulted for
doing their job!

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
