TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the election law, in relation to early voting for
certain special elections; and providing for the repeal of such
provisions upon expiration thereof
 
PURPOSE:
Modifies the hours of early voting for any special elections held on
April 29, 2025, to account for religious holidays.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Provides that early voting for any special election held on
April 29, 2025, shall begin on April 21, 2025 and shall end on April 27,
2025.
Section 2. Provides that the duration of early voting hours for any
special election held on April 29, 2025, shall be equal to or greater
than the minimum number of total hours otherwise required by law.
Section 3. Effective Date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Millions of New York City residents observe Passover and Easter holi-
days, which coincide with the slated early voting period for the April
29 special election. To accommodate these holidays, this bill proposes
to modify the early voting period for this election to run from April 21
to April 27 with the requirement that the total number of available
hours for early voting remain the same as otherwise required by law.
Similar adjustments were made to the early voting period for the 2024
Presidential Primary to account for the Easter holiday.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT:
None to the State.
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that sections
one and two of this act shall expire December 31, 2025 when upon such
date the provisions of this act shall be deemed repealed.
