TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to providing
notification to customers of bed bug infestations on MTA subways, trains
and buses

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To notify MTA customers, making them aware of bed bug infestations on
MTA subways, trains, and buses as a measure of public safety and public
health awareness, to help prevent the spreading of such infestation.

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Of the public authorities law is amended by adding section
1266-j to read as follows:
1266-j. Notification of bed bug infestations. The Authority shall estab-
lish a system to notify customers of bed bug infestations on subways,
trains and buses, within twenty-four hours of discovering such infesta-
tion. Such system may include notification through the authority's
webpage, or by e-mail or text message.

JUSTIFICATION:
Currently, there is no such notification system to inform PTA customers
of bed bug infestations on MTA subways, trains and buses. This will
help to address the immediate problem by preventing the transfer of bed
bugs, thusly preventing the spread of the infestation to other facili-
