TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in
relation to establishing maximum age requirements for New York city
correctional officers
 
PURPOSE:
To establish maximum age requirements for New York City correctional
officers.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of this bill amends the Administrative Code of the City of New
York by adding a new Section 9-177.2. Subsection (a) of this new section
provides that the Commissioner of Correction shall not appoint any new a
person to a position of uniformed correction officer if the person who
is under twenty-one years of age or over thirty-five years of age on the
date of appointment or the date that such person is eligible to compete
in a promotional exam. Subsection (b) of this new section provides that
nothing in this section shall limit or affect the existing authority of
the mayor and commissioner to appoint non-uniformed persons whose duties
include overall security of the department to positions of authority.
Section 2 is the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Correction officers York and, thus, the the same as those for are part
of the uniformed services of the City of New age requirements for
appointment and promotion should be police officers.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect the thirtieth day after it shall have become
a law and shall apply to appointments established on or after such date.
