TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to physical therapist
assistants
 
PURPOSE:
To provide greater efficiency and flexibility in regard to the duties of
physical therapist assistants.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Outlines the duties of the physical therapist assistant.
Section 2: Sets forth the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
General (not on site) supervision of physical therapist assistants by
physical therapists is the standard recognized by the APTA and 49
states, including Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and
Pennsylvania. Allowing for general supervision of PTAs in New York will
provide more flexibility for the therapy workforce, more efficient use
of resources and allow for greater patient access to care, particularly
in underserved communities.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect one year after it shall have become a law.
