TITLE OF BILL:
An act to authorize Melissa Baker to receive certain service credit
under a twenty year retirement plan
PURPOSE OF BILL:
This legislation will authorize Officer Melissa Baker, currently a
member of the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority (NFTA) Transit Police
Department, to transfer a defined period of service credit accrued while
a member of the Village of Blasdell Police Department to her current
pension plan.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one. Establishes the statutory authority to permit Officer
Melissa Baker to convert certain service credit accrued as a member of
the Village of Blasdell Police Department to her current pension plan.
§ 2. Provides that all past service costs shall be borne by the Village
of Blasdell and may be amortized over a five-year period.
§ 3. Establishes the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Officer Melissa Baker has spent her career in service to our communities
as a dedicated member of various law enforcement agencies within the
Western New York region. This legislation establishes parity by permit-
ting Officer Baker to transfer service credit accrued while employed as
a police officer in a different municipality to her existing transit
police department pension plan.
