TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to disabilities
of members of the uniformed force of sanitation departments in certain
cities
 
PURPOSE:
Establishes a presumption with respect to leptospirosis which results in
disability or death for members of the uniformed force of a paid sanita-
tion department.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Amends the general municipal law by adding a new section 207-aa.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Recent reports have indicated that the instance of death or disability
due to leptospirosis is unusually high among sanitation workers, who are
continually exposed to automotive exhaust and other hazardous substances
and conditions.
