TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the veterans' services law, in relation to establishing
a program for the sharing of veteran contact information
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To allow the New York State Department of Veterans' Services to create a
program that would allow the sharing of contact information of veterans
between itself and veteran-related programs.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
The bill amends the veterans' services law to require the department to
establish and maintain the contact-sharing program. The program will
consist of any governmental entity that offers veteran-related programs
or services, including programs offered by various state agencies.
JUSTIFICATION:
State agencies are not required to share the contact information of
veterans with the New York State Department of Veterans' Services. If
this information were made available to the Department, it would signif-
icantly improve veteran engagement and outreach, which in turn, helps
veterans gain access to existing benefits.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect 180 days after becoming a law, with an imme-
diate effective date for adding, amending, or repealing any rule or
regulation necessary for implementation of the act.
