TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the judiciary law, in relation to increasing the number
of county court judges in Saratoga county
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would create two additional county court justices in the
Unified Court System.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 would amend the judiciary law to add an additional county
court judge for Saratoga County.Section 2 states that this act shall
take effect immediately provided that the additional county court
justice shall first be elected at the general election to be held in
November 2025 and shall take office January 1, 2026.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Currently, there are insufficient judges to handle the growing case load
in Saratoga County. This bill would help alleviate the problem and
thereby serve to make the Unified Court System more efficient overall.
