TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the Scaja-
quada pedestrian bridge as the "9.11 Heroes Bridge"
 
PURPOSE:
This bill would designate the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the "9.11
HEROES BRIDGE:'
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 designates the Scajaquada pedestrian bridge as the "9.11
HEROES BRIDGE "spanning New York State Route 198, from Nottingham
Terrace to Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park in the city of Buffalo.
 
EXISTING LAW:
none
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Since 2003, an annual remembrance takes place atop the bridge on the
anniversary of September 11, 2001. Buffalo Police and Fire First Respon-
ders, as well as EMS personnel and soldiers have faithfully attended
every year. The purpose for this legislation is to honor the victims of
9/11 by renaming the bridge the "9.11 HEROES BRIDGE."
