TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public housing law, in relation to allowing prospec-
tive tenants of rent controlled or rent stabilized housing accommo-
dations to request the complete rent history of such housing accommo-
dations
 
PURPOSE:
To allow prospective tenants of rent controlled or rent stabilized hous-
ing accommodations to request the complete rent history of such housing
accommodations.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Amends the public housing law to allow prospective tenants of rent
controlled or rent stabilized housing accommodations to request the
complete rent history of such housing accommodations back until 1974.
Amendment Filed on 5.11.23 adds definition of "prospective tenant."
 
JUSTIFICATION:
New York has finally started to undo decades of damage to our rent
controlled and rent regulated housing stock with the enactment of the
HSTPA of 2019. However, more reforms are needed, and this makes sure
that prospective renters have an honest accounting of the rent history
of the apartments they are considering leasing.
