TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the penal law, in relation to permitting certain judges,
justices and support magistrates to carry a firearm, rifle, or shotgun
in a sensitive location
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To amend the penal law so as to allow judges, justices or magistrates to
carry a firearm in a "sensitive location" as defined by law if they are
a pistol permit holder.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section I: Adds judges who a pistol permit holders to the list of
exceptions to the ban on firearms in "sensitive locations"
Section 2:Provides for an immediate effective date.
 
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND AMENDED VERSION (IF APPLICABLE):
Adds Magistrate to original language
 
JUSTIFICATION:
In many rural communities, there is no court security and the response
time if law enforcement is called is significant. This law would enable
the presiding judge to defend themselves and others, preventing the
potential violent disruption of court proceedings.
