TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the election law, in relation to prohibiting early
voting on federal holidays

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends subdivision 1 of section 8-600 of the election law to
prohibit early voting on a federal holiday and require the board of
elections to add an additional day to the early voting period
Section 2 provides the effective date

JUSTIFICATION:
Federal holidays like Juneteenth and others hold significance for poll
workers and voters. Given New York's election calendar, Juneteenth and
other federal holidays can conflict with early voting periods. This
simple legislation provides additional flexibility in the early voting
period for poll workers and voters to observe federal holidays.
