TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to certain special
services aid for large city school districts and other school districts
which were not components of a board of cooperative educational services
in the base year
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends paragraph b cf subdivision 10 of section 3602 of the
education law to expand the aid for career education for city School
districts and other school districts which are not components of a board
of cooperative educational services to include ninth grade. It also
increases the allocation amount per pupil from $3,900 to$4,300,
Section 2 establishes the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) finding through Special Services
Aid is allocated to certain large city school districts and other school
districts which are not part of a BOCES system. This funding is used to
provide students with a strong foundation of technical knowledge and
skills to complement their academic studies and prepare them for both
college and future careers. Currently, CTE funding is capped at $9,900
per pupil from grades ten to twelve who attend career education programs
offered by the school districts. By increasing this amount to $4,300 and
expanding to ninth grade, this bill will enhance opportunities for our
scholars and lead to improved graduation rates and employment cpportuni-
ties post-graduation.

This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to school years
