TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to providing free SUNY,
CUNY and community college tuition to active volunteer firefighters,
volunteer emergency medical services providers, and volunteer auxiliary
police officers
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one requires the trustees to implement a program for any SUNY
student to attend without paying tuition and fees if such student serves
as an active volunteer firefighter, volunteer emergency medical services
provider, or voluntary auxiliary police officer.
Section two of the bill requires the same program for CUNY students.
Section three of the bill requires the same program for community
college students.
Section four is the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Our emergency services providers are vital to keeping residents of this
state safe. This bill, by providing free tuition for SUNY, CUNY, and
community college students that serve as volunteer firefighters, EMS
providers, and auxiliary police officers, shows that we value the hard
work and sacrifices these members make on a daily basis.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall have
become a law.
