TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to protective
orders for juries
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2024,
c.622.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by requiring a court
finding that there is good cause to believe that a threat to the safety
or integrity of the jury exists to, either upon motion by either party
or on the court's own initiative, issue a juror protective order.

JUSTIFICATION:
Pursuant to approval memo 60 of 2024, the Executive stated that the good
cause standard needed appropriate defining. This legislation is a nego-
tiated change to the underlying chapter that addresses those concerns.
 
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter amendment to Chapter 622 of the Laws of 2024. S.6239 and A.7495
both passed the Senate and Assembly, respectively, in May 2024.
