TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to dedicating a portion of
the state highway system to Trooper Jill E. Mattice
 
PURPOSE:
Dedicating a portion of the state highway system constituting state
route 23 in the town of Morris, county of Otsego, from its intersection
with county route 49 to its intersection with Potato Farm Road, known as
Patrick Hill Road, shall be dedicated to Trooper Jill E Mattice.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
The Commissioner of Transportation shall provide for the installation
and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as
designated pursuant to Section One of this act. However, to avoid
confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig-
nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
the ceremonial natural and the official name of such highway shall not
be changed as a result of this act.

None
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Trooper Jill E Mattice entered the New York State Police on April 7,
2003, and served for over 6-1/2 years. Trooper Mattice died on January
20, 2010, in a motor vehicle collision on State Route 23. Trooper
Mattice was assigned as a School Resource Officer in the Franklin and
Unadilla Valley Central School Districts and was returning to SP Oneonta
at the conclusion of her day.
Trooper Mattice was the first female in the history of the New York
State Police to die in the line of duty. In observance of the 15th year
of her passing, the State Police requests a historic marker be placed at
the accident site.

Effective immediately
