TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting
peace officer status to animal control officers of the county of Schuyl-
er
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To grant peace officer status to animal control officers of the county
of Schuyler
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
(1) Modifies section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law, as amended by
adding a new subdivision 87; to grant peace officer status to animal
control officers employed in Schuyler County
(2) States the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill proposes to confer peace officer status upon animal control
officers who are employed by the County of Schuyler. However, it is
important to note that this subdivision does not permit animal control
officers to carry, possess, repair, or dispose of firearms unless they
have obtained the necessary license in accordance with section 400.00 of
the penal law.
