TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to certain
requirements for new tobacco business locations
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To prohibit new tobacco business locations from opening within 500 feet
of an existing tobacco business.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 prohibits new tobacco businesses from opening within 500 feet
of an existing tobacco business in medium to large cities.
Section 2 sets the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill will help with the over-saturation of new tobacco businesses
and give current tobacco businesses a chance at economic recovery and
prosperity in a fair competitive market. The goal is to prevent tobacco
businesses from entering into illicit markets to make up costs for loss
of sales while also limiting tobacco products and advertisements geared
towards marginalized communities and youth.
