TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the election law, in relation to requiring persons
appointed as election commissioners to be citizens of the United States
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would require Boards of Elections commissioners to be citizens
of the United States.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: States that Boards of Elections commissioners must citizens
of the United States.
Section 2: Sets effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
In San Francisco, a noncitizen was recently appointed as an elections
commissioner. It is highly concerning to have somebody who is not a
citizen oversee election policy in the United States. We must ensure
that our elections commissioners have an allegiance to our country, and
our country alone. This bill would codify this simple principle into
statute.
