TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the cannabis law, in relation to notice to elected offi-
cials upon receipt of certain applications
PURPOSE:
To provide notice to elected officials upon receipt of application for a
cannabis retail dispensary or on-site consumption license.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 requires the cannabis control board to provide written notice
within thirty days upon receipt of a completed application for an
adult-use retail dispensary license or an adult-use on-site consumption
license to members of the state assembly and senate who represent the
district in which the proposed dispensary or on-site consumption estab-
lishment is located.
Section 2 sets the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Existing cannabis law requires applicants for an adult-use retail
dispensary or an on-site consumption license to provide notice to the
municipality where the premises is located of the applicant's intent to
file such an application. This notice, prior to the filing of the appli-
cation, ensures city, town, or village officials are aware of the appli-
cant's intent and can provide updates on developments related to the
applicant's licensure to their constituents.
This bill requires the cannabis control board to provide written notice
within thirty days upon receipt of a completed application for an
adult-use retail dispensary license or an adult-use on-site consumption
license to members of the State Assembly and Senate who represent the
district where the proposed dispensary or on-site consumption establish-
ment is located, providing state lawmakers with the same ability to
provide updates on developments on the applicant's licensure to their
constituents.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately; provided that the cannabis
control board shall provide the notice required by subdivision 4 of
section 61 of the cannabis law as added by section one of this act for
any completed application which is pending as of the effective date of
this act.
