TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public health law, in relation to establishing an
awareness campaign on the use of hormone replacement therapy in treating
the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is to inform the public about hormone treatment
therapy for treating perimenopause and menopause symptoms.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. adds a new paragraph (t) to subdivision 1 of section 207 of
the public health law regarding hormone replacement therapy treatment
its availability, benefits, risks, and side effects.
Section 2. Establishes the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is a treatment for perimenopause and
menopause symptoms. According to studies, approximately 85% of menopau-
sal women report experiencing symptoms of varying types that affect
their daily lives. A variety of effective treatments are available to
help address these symptoms, including but not limited to HRT.
This legislation will provide awareness to those in New York State expe-
riencing symptoms of what hormone replacement therapy is and give some
guidance when speaking to their medical professionals.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have
become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or
repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of
this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed
on or before such effective date.
